Available as an optional software module for your WatchGuard LiveSecurity System, the WatchGuard High Availability solution allows you to install a second, standby Firebox into your network to ensure that your Web site and network remain accessible to your customers, business partners, and employees. WatchGuard High Availability is designed to easily integrate into your standard WatchGuard Security Suite of software. The WatchGuard Quick Setup Wizard enables you to quickly and efficiently configure two Fireboxes that are installed into your network, designating one Firebox as the primary source for enforcing your security policy and the other Firebox as a secondary, or standby, Firebox. The standby Firebox remains inactive unless the primary Firebox ceases to respond to a connection on a specified "heartbeat" channel over a selected Firebox interface (e.g. Trusted or External). If no response is received across the network from the primary Firebox, the standby Firebox will assume the active role within ten seconds of failure detection. Filtered TCP connections to the Firebox will retain state during the transition from the primary to the secondary Firebox. The standby Firebox will continue to pass packets on these TCP connections after recovery. Proxied connections will need to be re-established after recovery. WatchGuard High Availability is only available between two Firebox II family members, it is not an option with either the Firebox SOHO or Firebox Telecommuter.
